Genomics and Bioinformatics core publish their sequencing QC tool

last modified Apr 09, 2014 01:48 PM

The Genomics and Bioinformatics core heads recently published a paper describing the tool we use as the primary QC for every lane of Illumina sequencing. We look at every lane we sequence and have used this tool on about 5000-6000 samples over the past 3-4 years.

The tool was designed to produce a simple visualisation of quality and yield on a per lane basis. It displays yield, as counts of reads/clusters and error rate of the 36th bp, with additional information to help identify lanes that may need additional troubleshooting.

How do you get MGA: The paper was only published a couple of days ago but you can read it in provisional format at Frontiers in Genetics. You can also grab the software from https://github.com/crukci-bioinformatics/MGA.

Or just read the paper...
